Sony KD28DL11U Picture Problem

When I turned on the TV it seemed to take slightly longer to warm up and I now have the following symptoms

1) Picture not totally sharp via Freeview and a noticeable red colour cast
2) Picture image stretched and the programme banner at the top doesn't fit. Similarly the "red button text" is now off the screen. I have also noticed that titles e.g. those giving the name of the correspondant at the bottom used by the news programmes are distorted
4) If I go to 4:3 the picture has an inward curve on the LHS
3) Picture slightly sharper on DVD but still noticeable colour cast

Can anyone suggest a possible reason for this & whether it's worth repairing

TIA for any help

It would appear from your description that there is more than one fault with your Sony .Is it possible some of these faults were there before?The only clue seems to be the complaint of taking longer to come on.One possible reason for this is capacitors in the main Power Unit moreso if the set is powered off from the mains and not left in standby.Only an engineer can locate the possible faulty components for you though as its difficult to say exactly were the fault(s) lie.You have to decide if its worth it though.Red cast on the picture could be the CRT.

Thanks for this - it's now got worse in that the picture went totally blurred from both edges before the TV went dead and I can no longer switch it on. I#m presuming this sounds terminal.

I must admit I hadn't noticed any of the other problems such as picture stretching or the colour cast before

I think with the possible problem of a soft crt it still brings into question if a repair is cost affective.This model also suffered from line output transformer failure on a regular basis.

I'm beginning to think that. My local Sony Centre offered me the following;

I pay them £69 to have it collected & looked at in their repair shop. If it can be repaired the labour cost is already included in the £69 paid and I would only need to pay extra for any parts. If a repair is not possible / uneconomic then I get £46 credit against a new TV in the Sony Centre

This may well be the way to go But if you have to buy new from the Sony Centre see if they will price match other local dealers as they tend to be a bit high priced .Good luck.
