Scart Shift

Right i have a rgb scart lead for my megadrive and a goodmans gtv76w3sil tv. When I put sonic in and changed the channel to av-1 rgb which to my eyes is the same as rgb channel, I got scart shift to the left with blue boarders top and bottom, and black boaders at the sides. I also have it on 4:3 which is what is the best for viewing old consoles. My question is on my tv is there any way to change this left shift as its annoying. I cant find a picture shift in the menus so am guessing I would have to mess about with the service menu. Is it also normal to have the blue boarder top and bottom and down the right side, it's like the picture is right but the sonic screen is over to left. If it cant be fixed just say so and I'll deal with it, just really doing my head in.

No worries found out the service code which is menu 4725. Set at 007 is right for 16:9, but when i go to 4:3 for games, I change it to 014.

I've never understood why TVs with RGB SCART connections (which means virtually all of them) don't have image centering menu options as standard. Why hide them in the service menu?

I spent the whole of my early years of video gaming putting up with off set picture fields. Playing top/bottom bordered PAL PSOne games with no in built picture centering (which, even if provided, only recentered, within the off set image field anyway) didn't completely ruin the games but it was not the aesthetically pleasing experience it should have been.

Later when I had the money my choice of dedicated gaming TV (a Sony WEGA) was significantly influenced by the fact it had manual RGB SCART. But I discovered that even that sometimes wouldn't fully re-centre some games and the geometry is **** too.

I'm actually still too scared to try to service menu correct it even though, thanks to some posters here, I've happily mucked about with my other TV (JVC HV-32P37) for years.

Yes my old Sony TV shifts the picture over to the right when it's in 'proper' RGB mode, but you have to sometimes manually select it from the remote by pushing the input button again.
I agree the geometry leaves a lot to be desired on Sony TV's especially widescreen models, but the factory service mode settings are always a bit iffy and can do with adjusting if you know what you are doing.

I also have an old Philips CM-8833 monitor that's just perfect for retro gaming. It's around the same size as a portable TV, but gives a much sharper picture, and the geometry is excellent.

Yes I agree it's annoying. Am no expert but I think I have it sorted. Widescreen seems to be ok, it's just when I go to 4:3 that I have to change the horizontal shift. I might just go back to my portable tv. Ps2 games have the shift built in on some games which is good, but not all have it. I love retro gaming so I gotta have the setings perfect or I can't seem to relax to play the game. Glad Ps3 and xbox360 dont have this problem, am sure some other problems will crop up with them tho.
