Kronach, Germany. - With the launch of its high-resolution and large-format plasma and rear-projection televisions as well as the new HD-Real-Flatline picture-tubes, Loewe is setting new standards in picture quality. The screen images are so authentic, they appear alive to the naked eye. This is made possible thanks to the new Loewe display technologies and the new Loewe signal processing used in MediaPlus-HD technology. On the Loewe screen, these innovations mean impressive and authentic images with natural colour reproduction, fascinating depth of focus and incredibly detailed pictures.

Loewe has succeeded in significantly improving the picture quality of its televisions with its new display technologies. Its new high-definition Real-Flat-HD picture tubes for instance, generate an evenly sharp and distortion-free image across the entire screen area.
With over a million pixels, the high definition plasma panel (1024 x 1024 pixels) of the new Spheros 42 HD plasma TV achieves a significant improvement in the image resolution. This creates a unique picture quality with incredible brilliance and natural sharpness. In cooperation with Carl Zeiss and Texas Instruments, Loewe developed the high-resolution projection TV Articos 55 HD, which is based on Digital Light Processing technology (DLPTM). This allows Articos 55 HD to achieve a maximum depth of focus, high contrast reproduction and distortion-free images. The German manufacturer's large format Xelos SL 37 HD and Xelos SL 32 HD with high-resolution LCD screen in modern widescreen format ensure a flicker-free and brilliant picture quality due to the new MediaPlus-HD technology and thereby guarantee a premium home cinema experience.

Today, many television programmes continue to be broadcasted in standard signal formats such as PAL with 625 lines and 50-Hz picture frequency. To ensure an optimal picture quality, it is therefore important to generate the best picture possible from these standard signals. Loewe high-resolution displays allow customers to benefit from the advantages of future HD signal formats today. Loewe digital MediaPlus-HD technology in combination with the Loewe high-end converter re-sults in a finer and significantly improved image with greater detail.

Intelligent techniques have also been developed to further improve the picture quality of Loewe Plasma and projection televisions. A common problem, mainly associated with large screen formats, is that step effects can often appear with diagonal structures – particularly with moving images. Diagonal Contour Control (DCC) significantly reduces these step effects and generates harmonious diagonal movements. Artificial shadowing with light/dark signals is prevented thanks to Luminance Transition Improvement (LTI). With LTI, images are richer in detail and text is considerably sharper.

Digital Visual Interface (DVI) is an advanced digital interface that guarantees absolute signal fidelity in the reproduction of digital video sources including future DVD players. In addition, this technology means that the picture quality of Spheros 42 HD and Articos 55 HD is also ideal for multimedia applications such as presentations of digital vacation images saved on CD.

The picture of televisions with Real-Flat picture tubes is individually processed with the Black Level Expander. This improves the contrast ratio and the depth action according to the image content. This technique imitates the natural mechanism of the human eye, which is constantly adjusting to the given lighting conditions and thereby projects an optimal image on the optic nerve.

By using MediaPlus-HD technology, Loewe has been capable of obtaining the best possible picture from all available signal formats and thereby guarantee an optimum image quality with common television applications. With its Spheros 42 HD, Loewe is already introducing a Plasma TV with unique picture quality. Additional televisions with Loewe MediaPlus-HD technology are due to be introduced in autumn – Articos 55 HD, Articos 32 HD/DR+, Aconda 9381 HD/DR+, Aconda 9381 HD and Aconda 9281 HD.

It's surprising none of the Loewe CRTs can take a 480p or 576p signal without faffing about with the VGA input

I think the HD means High Definition and the DR+ means Digital Recording Plus.

From that other article on the hard disk recording, it sounds like the new models may be the same price as the old ones.

Some info on the Articos 55 HD, saw it briefly a few weeks ago (the only one in the UK at the time apparently) and was told it was a 1280x720 DLP and will be about £7k. Wasn't plugged in so I couldn't see it in action It has similar styling to the Loewe plasmas, and it's very shallow for a rear projection.

appears to be a 38" Aconda with native 1080i picture format......but for Yank land only
