Disabling SVM on 42PW23P

To disable SVM on a 42PW23P (and any other similar RP)

Disconnect the plug from the wall, leave overnight.
Remove the speaker grille.
See below pic. Look for three, white/pink leads from the Green PCB board (SVM board) to the Red & Blue CRT's, and the shorter one to the Green CRT.

This is a pic of the left hand side on the Green SVM board. Remove the cable (white/pink) from the connector. Be very careful, gently pull the connector slightly (1 mm gap)... then use a small flat head screwdriver in one hand, hold the PCB board with the other, put the tip of the screwdriver in the gap, rotate the screwdriver slightly- it'll lift the connector off.

Use a tie wrap to secure it safetly away from any components.

Do the same for the two remaining connectors.. pic is of the right hand side on the Green SVM board. Again secure with a tie wrap.

The Blue/Grey cable I believe is the power cable for the SVM board(s) I have tracked this cable down to the main PCB board, on the far right hand side. I've removed it the cable on the main board.

If anyone knows what that 3 -wired grey cable is (from the Green main neck PCB to the SVM board, please inform me. I have left it connected.

Of course these tips is just for the advanced tweaker. Like myself!

raymen your tv has the same boards. I have the 56who8. I was the one who told nathan how to disable svm, so if any1 has any questions, ask away.

Well i have the tosh now for a month,i have had it isf calibrated(bij ITC) maybey you heard of it..

But i read a couple topics of nathan, and i thought maybey i can do those tweaks at my 50wh18 p.

I have already got the grill of,but the svm can i get any result out of it,and i see more tips and tweaks like de lens hood en darkening of the inside.

so if you can give me any information i like too know.

Thanks anyway.

If i disable SVM (on the picture i see 3 tubes with each one a kabel,i have pulled these 3 lose,)but must i also pull the other one out(power).

Or can i leave this one.

Hmm tough one to answer... the 'power' lead to the SVM Board has 125V in it..... and not knowing exactly if removing this would create a mismatch in load on this line.. I'd be a bit hesitant...

I can tell you how we disabled it for 'engineering test' sets...
We just unplugged the SVM Board... completely... but that was on single CRT direct view sets.. and those were a 5-7 year old design!!! so I wouldn't like to say what would happen on the new sets!!!, its easy when you work in the factory if you make a mistake, then you just fix the set... Some of the engineers just use to pull the SVM Signal lead off (3 pin connector that doesn't go to the VM Coils.. this just carries the SVM from the video processor and 2 grounds)... and left the rest connected.. but not knowing this particular model, I don't know if that will remove SVM completely!!!

I will ask one of the engineers or technicians, although on questions like this they get quite hesitant!!

I think that if it 'accepted' that just removing the three VM Coil leads does the job, then I'd leave as is...

Rayman, I've disconnected the blue/grey cable from the green SVM board AND from the mainboard chassis.

I've left the grey 3 way cable connected.
