Ok, after lots of research and plenty of decision changing, I think I've narrowed my choice down to 3 tvs.

Toshiba 32zd26
Panasonic 32ps12
Sony KV32FX68

I've found plenty of comments on the Toshiba (mostly good but a few not so good) but I cannot find many for the other two. I'm leaning towards the Toshiba as I have the SD330 dvd player which has component out.

I would be grateful for some comments on all of the above tvs - good and bad - to help me make my decision.

I was hoping to get the Toshiba at John Lewis, but it has been discontinued so I will have to find an alternative source if I decide on this one.

forget those 3 and get the loewe mimo 32 inch £1099 the best 32 inch around .john lewis should have them in and they give a 5 year warranty.you can get a vga upgrade for it and hook your comp to it if you have one.the picture quility is firt class and doesnt have many side effects with the prossesing that is taking place

I agree with andya. The 100Hz processing on the Loewe sets is miles better than Panasonic, Sony or Tosh.
Most of the current Loewe sets can also accept component signals on the AV3 input. (Accessed through the CONNECTIONS option on the main menu) You need a special cable. QED make one.
It is debatable whether the picture is any better than RGB though.

Vote number 3 for Mimo. Utterly fantastic IMHO. House of Fraser and John Lewis have Mimo along with the current usual suspects. Take some DVD's down and compare the sets.

I think the Mimo is just that bit too pricey for me, but I will certainly take a look at it next time I am in John Lewis. I can't say I am keen on the available stands either, but I suppose it will go on one of the generic tv stands. I must admit it has a very good feature list!

Any comments on the three tvs I mentioned above would be most gratefully received.

As Andy said, JL will pricematch tvandvideodirect saving you a good few hundred quid on Loewe sets. That makes Mimo only £250 dearer than the Tosh. Loewe Aventos is even cheaper.

I got through 3 32ZD26s. All 3 sets made an audible buzzing noise, had shadows at the edge of the screen and had green motion trails. 2 sets had terible geometry. This has been widely reported on this forum. Otherwise the picture was fantastic. These faults may not bother you but there is a good chance that you will get some of them.
I could not find fault with any of the Loewes i looked at. Granted they are more expensive and some of that expensive is for the designer looks. They are also better built and probably have the least complaints of any manufacturer mention on this forum.

I found a nice stand that i think will go with the mimo.

I bit the bullet and bought the ridiculously overpriced Rack 1 stand. Definite case of style over substance. It is lovely though!

Try P&A Audio. I think they have a store in Southport.

I have just bought a new Toshiba from them and they reduced the price. Also gave me a five year warranty and they got the set for me within five days. Far better than any of the Internet dealers. Delivered and set up the tv for me. I'm very satisfied with them.

Have to agree with you there, I think if you are going to go for the Mimo then this rack is a must to really show it off, pity it's so expensive!

Kwangomango, can you please confirm that remote controls work through the door of the rack 1? I'm assuming they do...

Unfortunately they don't. You will need an infrared extender which passes the IR signals along a wire and into the box. Loewe do one which plugs into the tv. The ir receiver on the tv captures all the signals you fire at it and sends them along the cable to another emitter at the other end. I'm sure you can also find third party ones. Don't know about prices. All my kit is on another rack anyway so the Rack 1 will just contain consoles and joypads etc.

I couldn't find P&A Audio listed in the Yellow Pages, but there was a shop called Southport HiFi & Audio. I'll check them out at the weekend.

Thanks for that. I'll go and have a look at the weekend. I hope they have the Toshibas in so I can check them out properly.
