TV - crackling speakers

I have a Hitachi 32" TV which is about 6 years old. It is a CRT and not a LCD or plasma. Had a clean up and moved the tv and stand to hover behind it. Used mr sheen on a rag to wipe the tv down so am sure no spray went inside. Now when i put the TV on the sound is fine. Sometimes it crackles and makes a whistling sound like using a microphone on a windy day. Then after a bit it goes away the the normal sound returns. Could be a fault like a dry joint on the sound board etc and knowing that some repaires charge at least £80 to check it out i have decided to try something else. It is a TV with built in surround speakers etc and have phono sockets in the back for additional speakers. In the menu option there is the option to turn off the TV internal speakers. Have linked my hi-fi system to the tv using phono plugs and it seems to work okay playing through the hi-fi system. Was told that if i had accidently sprayed inside the slots the silicone? in the spray could short a circuit or two. Is that true? The TV picture is perfect. Is there a spray one can use to clean the boards? Was toying with the idea of removing the cover and check clean the ciruit boards.

What i plan to do i buy a surround speakers that can connect to the TV directly. Correct route to take? Any recommendations of what type of speakers to buy?

Also noticed in the back there are two DIN plugs and a 18v power output.

Thanks in advance to those who replied.

A decent TV engineer would know exactly where to look for this fault and have you back up and running within half an hour, using nothing more than a soldering iron and some solder.

You haven't given us the model number, which is always a good idea.

Will confirm this 100% if you report back with it. 99% sure already though.

The model number is C32W510SN. Happy with the tv. Pity that some places charge a minimum £80 to check the tv out. Makes sense to bin it and get a LCD for £360ish if i have to. But want to keep it as long as i can.

Well, don't use them...they sound like con artists.
Phone around TV repairers advertising in your local paper, Yellow Pages etc.
There are still quite a few honest TV technicians around
