Panny PD30 Brightness problem

Something has happened to the brightness levels on my 36pd30. The picture is suddenly much brighter than it used to be. Watching DVDs via component I now have to turn the brightness down from roughly 50% to virtually 0% t get blacks looking black. Watching Sky+ via RGB scart is a bit better as I “only” have to turn the brightness down to about 25%. Before I turned down the brightness I also noticed that the picture was very soft. The picture becomes sharper once I turn the brightness down.

Additionally there is a slight flickering in the picture as if the brightness level is fluctuating slightly in parts of the picture. Most noticeable in large areas of the same colour. This is much less noticeable now that I have turned the brightness down.

Any ideas?
