Watching NTSC (R1) DVD's on 100Hz TV's

Hi!

I'm kind of new to all this "100Hz Digital this and that" stuff and my Sony KV-LS65 is my first 100Hz (Digi+) TV. I'm VERY pleased with the Sony but I've noticed some "distortion/glitches/edges/" when I watch R1 (NTSC) movies. It's only at the top of the picture, not the bottom. It happens when the camera moves really fast, like movies in Blade/Blade/Matrix etc.. Is this a general problem with all 100Hz tv's or is it just my Sony?

It's not a big problem, you can just use the zoom button but I just want to know if this is normal to all 100Hz tv's or not. Thnx in advance!

A.M.

It's not a feature of just 100Hz sets, it's just that many PAL sets aren't accurately calibrated for NTSC display (because it's of secondary importance). A quick trip to the Service Menu should solve the problem.

Cue Sony owners.....

You mean correcting the gamma etc. you can actually make it disappear?

I need to calibrate my TV 100%. Is a dvd calibration disc a "must own"? I live in Denmark, and the only calibration disc I've seen around here is "The Calibrator". No AVIA etc.

Not by correcting gamma no as that would alter colour parameters accross the whole screen... the distortion/glitches you are seeing are actually not meant to be seen... rather they are intended to be in the overscan area of the picture, so it would mean adjusting the vertical size/position for NTSC.

A calibration disc is a good idea, it's nice when the TV is set up with good colour, contrast and geometry.

Will AVIA help me?

The DVD I mentioned in the above thread is a good buy
