Sony KP44PS2 versus Samsung SP42W4HPX

Subject line says it all really.

I'm looking to make the jump from a 28" Phillips to a RP set. I've seen the Samsung in Comet, Currys etc and like what I've seen as I can tell based on the crap sources they use.

Some of the comments on here have put me off, however -- ie. no automatic widescreen switching, and illegible scroll text (as a Sky Sports News addict the latter would be a disaster!). I've also read the PDF of the set's manual and I don't like the warnings about screen burn-in -- as someone who watches lots of Sky channels I have visions of that bloody red dot being permanently burnt in.

The Sony is a good alternative, especially as it's a bigger screen size while being about the same physical size and only a ton or so more in price. Try as I might, however, I can't find any comments on this set.

Does anyone out there have the Sony? And do any Samsung owners want to put my mind at rest?

Cheers,

Loccy

Kp44 PS2 is awsome for SKY. I previously had Philips 36pw9607 that would stutter and generally not be at all kind to the mpeg compression used by SKY, Sony is great and you hardly get any sign of the mpeg compression. Picture also is almost like DVD on the higher bandwidth channels. Where in the country are you as you can have a demo if you are near the Essex area.

I'm based in London so not a million miles away.

You couldn't measure the dimensions of your Sony for me, could you? On Comet's website they say it's about the same size as the Samsung but I can't believe that a 44" set is the same size as a 42".

I do have a small-ish living room and realise that whichever model I buy, any visitors to my place are likely to leave with the word TELLY! emblazoned across their mind, but the dimensions are important if it is going to fit.

I'm sure I read somewhere that there were RP sets that, over the course of an hour, actually rotated the picture around by about ten pixels -- sufficiently unobtrusive to not be noticeable to the human eye but enough to prevent burn in. Did I imagine this, or does it actually exist?

I would not bother too much about burn in. As long as contrast is set to senisble levels and you are not stupid with displaying static images. Maximum dimensions are as follows
H 1160
W 1095
D 495

Although as you are probably aware the screen sits on a stand of sort that is slightly smaller.

Just to say, I have the samsung set, and have seen zero problems reading scrolling text. I think it's a great set, but the sony looks damn good too. The Samsungs integrated stand was what swung it for me as I didn't have room for a seperate stack for my DVD, STB and VCR.
