Which TV?

*Comet.

I brought a Panasonic Flat 36" widescreen TV from Comet a year ago. After a couple of months the pictures colours intermittently faulted. This got worse and worse, and for the past five months I have had to live £1,900 worth of TV with dose'nt work. Anyway - after five months of phone calls, letters to the managing director of Comet, more phone calls, more letters to the...... etc etc - they have agreed to give me a refund!! Yippeeeeee!!!

Had they done this five months ago, I might have gone back there to buy my next television. I'll never even walk into one of their stores again.

Anyway - point of my email:
Which TV should I go for?
I love playing the XBox, so don't want something which is susceptible to shadows being burnt into the screen. (Am I right in thinking that this rules plasmas and rear projection tv's out?)
I'm looking to pay around £1,400 - £1,900.
I don't wish to 'downgrade' to anything smaller than 36".
My DVD is progressive scan.. - not sure whether it's worth going for a progress scan TV..... ?

Any thoughts/suggestions would be most appreciated.

Also - if anyone could recommend a good reseller who offers good, honest after-sales customer service I would be grateful. I'm thinking of John Lewis at the moment - five year guarentee on everything you buy. I've also heard great reports about Cosco - ie - if you want to take something back, all they ask is if "there is anything we should know" ("yes, the pictures faulty") --> "fine - here's you money back".

*All references/experiences dealing with Comet can be proved.

Philips 36PW9607... I have the 32" 9617 fantastic set... but read the sticky too. I'm very happy with my set and I believe spikeyboyo wo has a 9607 is extremly happy too. I'm yet to see a better CRT picture. Oh and go with John Lewis and use them to pricematch the cheapest price you can find http://uk.pricerunner.com/ (they'll only match companies with actual shops).

I've been pleased with JL,but its the luck of the draw with whom you deal with sometimes, I made a note of the helpful chappie and always asked for him and got good after sales service.
The TV choice, well its the answer that can only be biased as you either own it or have had it, heres my tupence worth. The Sony is my choice (fs76) initially an ugly mother but in situ looks clean ans impressive. I've viewed the Phillips p+ extensively and I would stay clear, the motion control thingy, makes the image glide unnaturally, and pixalation plus blurring is all to noticable on the 36" (all I tried all the various settings, comparing two TV's playing the same disc, on AB repeat, after all the initial rave about these P+ I thought it was the on to have). The toshes I've had suffered from many nasties but corner colour staining and flicker were the worst 'features'
Overall the sony had a nice crisp neutral picture. And I am not a all sony is great person, either (if there are any?).

the jvc hd 25 d has a better dvd picture than! ihmo (saw them side by side!) but still the pixel plus does have a good pic as well.

With that budget you would be mad not to consider a Loewe TV. I have my Xbox wired up to a Aconda with the official Scart lead and it looks great.

.....yeah i've seen the quality of the picture of Loewe - photograph quality - awesome.

But are we not talking about £2,000 for a 32 incher ?

hmmmmm - I'm going to speak to Sevenoaks Sound and Vision to see how their prices compare. I'd rather pay a little more for the peace of mind that if something goes wrong it'll be sorted out reasonably quickly.

Ideally I'm looking for a no-quibble exchange policy - 3 years+

From what I can gather, companies who can afford to be so cheap make up for it in other ways - i.e. offering zilcho customer service.

But thanks - I hadn't considered Loewe - thought it was out of my price range for the size i was looking for...
