Philips TV With Intermitent Green Tint????

Hi,

My Philips 32 inch TV (old big box style which I think is CRT ) in the last week or so has developed an intermitent green tint on the screen.

This green tint sort of comes and goes when I'm watching analogue TV, Teletext or playing my XBOX 360 (3 leads into a scart connector).

Bemusingly when I watch DVDs I've yet to see the green tint.

Any of you experts come across this?

It's been suggested to me that my "tube" is dying a slow and painful death - which I could understand but the DVD angle is throwing me....

I've tried to ask Philips direct for help - but not getting anywhere fast with their customer 'support'....

Any advice please??

If my TV is going to die I'd like to replace it sooner rather than later - or could this fault be something else?

Sincere thanks for any advice or thoughts,

Duder

Re: Philips TV With Intermitent Green Tint????

Had to use a mirror and a torch to get the model number - thinks it is 32PW6308/02.

No generally don't leave it on standby - kids tell me something about having to "save the monkeys"....

Hope you can help,

Duder

There isn't a model with that no.
It could be a 32PW6305...if it is?...it uses the Philips A10 chassis and your symptoms are either a duff crt (beyond repair) or the notorious "Painter" IC (expensive...probably £100 plus).

32PW6305 looks about right on Google images.

Any thoughts why it plays DVDs ok and without the green tint?

Thanks again,

If it definately doesn't do it on a DVD player connected by scart that rules out the CRT as being faulty.
The Painter IC is the most likely candidate and is known for causing weird symptoms of all kinds.

Be gentle

What does this mean in laymans terms??

Is it fixable or am I looking at a new TV??

Will the TV suddenly go or is it a prolonged death??

You Dudes are really helpful - I do appreciate all the guidance so far

Thanks again,

Duder

It is fixable but at a price...around £100 I'd say...you'd need to phone around and get estimates locally.

Other symptoms could show or it could go on for years yet...it's impossible to say.

Re: Philips TV With Intermitent Green Tint????

My Mum's Philips set has developed exactly the same symptoms.

I've ruled out connections as it has an integral DVD player and the same thing happens when that is used.

Its intermittent though which is the weird thing. Turn it off/on or change the picture source and its suddenly fine.

How can I tell whether its this Painter IC (?) and fixable or the CRT dying ?

You need to report back with the model no.

Re: Philips TV With Intermitent Green Tint????

Its taken a while, but finally got it...

Its a Philips 28PW6816A.

It has an integrated DVD player, and is quite a nice set, so its worth saving if I can fix it for a hundred quid or so.

Re: Philips TV With Intermitent Green Tint????

That model uses the A10E chassis as well.
I could be wrong but my gut feeling tells me it's probably a duff crt.

Anyway of telling ? Any simple test I might be able to perform ?

Its one big mother and humping it across town for no discernable benefit does not appeal.

Re: Philips TV With Intermitent Green Tint????

The fact that "Turn it off/on or change the picture source and its suddenly fine" suggests it is the crt.
There are no simple tests you can do yourself.
