loewe aconda set-up

Alright, newbie here so be gentile....

Just picked up a Aconda 9303 (q2400 chassis). Unfortunately the user manuals I have are in every language but english, and my french is very rusty.

When I hook up my DVD player, I get sound, runs through my suround sound fine also, but my picture is in black and white. No matter how I configure it, black and white. Now the dvd player that is hooked to it currently is a very cheap Magnavox, so I have a feeling this may be an issue.

Are there minimum requirements for this tv in regards to a dvd player?

Also, any tips on getting the most out of this doll, as this tv and its intricacies are all pretty new to me.

Is your Magnavox dvd multi - region ? Is it possible it`s set to ntsc? That would account for the black `n white pict.

Re: loewe aconda set-up

The dvd player is region 1. I hooked up another dvd player to the tv with the same results. I believe this has something to do specifically with this brand of TV, which may be in the set-up procedure.

You don't really need a manual for the Aconda - it has more information in the menu. If you need help with any function, just press the i button on the remote. Go into the AV connections menu and check it's all configured properly. I assume you're using an s-video cable to connect?

Re: loewe aconda set-up

Yes, I'm using an s-video to connect. I'm just getting familiar with the tv's info, I'll attempt when I get home.

One more question, which may be in the tv's info screen also. When I'm on ESPN, or any station with scrolling information on the bottom of the screen, its not entirely visible. Half is cut off. Any way to adjust?

Also any tips on optimizing this tv? The picture is pretty awesome (just using basic direct tv box) and the sound is great too (Sony surround sound is hooked up). I had a 32" JVC flat and the Aconda destroys it IMO.

Re: loewe aconda set-up

To get a better quality picture would require an RGB or component input via SCART but I don't suppose any of your equipment supports it. Loewe made a VGA module which allows analogue VGA input bypassing all internal processing, but that might be getting complicated.
See

for details.
Odd that some of the screen is cut off. Search for 'Aconda service menu' - you could fiddle with the geometry to reduce the overscan but make sure you make a note of original settings!

Re: loewe aconda set-up

Fixed the black and white situation with the dvd player. You can't just plug the player into the proper inputs. You have go through the video set-up, and "introduce" the dvd player to the tv. Once the tv identifies that there is a player, the screen went to color.

will work on other adjustments.....thanks for the link

On my Loewe Mimo, I changed some settings on the menu - I think it was the 4.3, 16.9 type of option. Information such as subtitles etc then became fully visible.

Re: loewe aconda set-up

Yup, there is a format button on the remote for display {4:3, 16:9, panaorama, and cinema}.

Thanks
