New CRT : What are my choices

ok i've just moved into a new flat and so far only have a portable 14" TV so am looking at getting one. I was interested in the Panasonic TX32lxd70 which is HD Ready or the Sharp LC32X20E mainly because I can get a company discount with both of these.

I'm also interested in a new CRT and think there are still a few that I can buy but not really sure what ones, where I can get one and also the cost.

My current setup is a V+ box but that only has BBC HD at the moment and I only have a PS2 no thrid gen console at the moment although I might add one nearer xmas time.

I have a DVD player no HD or Blue Ray player and don't plan to get one of them either.

I enjoy sport and so no motion blue would be great for me which is think is something CRT is better at than an LCD. As I have a small room i'm only really looking into a 32" TV.

Is there are CRT out there that I can still buy ?

32" CRTs are freaking HUGE depth-wise, hardly ideal for a small room. One option would be a Samsung slimfit but they don't make them any more and there's a good reason for that.

Apart from a few supermarket cheapies there are no CRTs being produced at the present time. It seems like their end has come. Elswhere on the Forum you will find that people have expectations of a new Slimfit from Samsung. The likelihood of it hitting the UK market is pretty remote as dealers will not want to stock them.

Your best bet is to explore the second hand market. People are almost giving away perfectly good CRTs to replace them with flat screens. There is some really good stuff out there which, in some cases, is ending up on tips. Seems a shame. Only downside is they will not be HD Ready.

Still trying to decide whether to sell my PD50 Panasonic and go for a shiny new plasma, or keep it and wait....... for exactly what I dont know, perhaps for sky HD to hit the £99 mark

I dont believe you can still buy a new, good quality CRT.Perhaps the 2nd hand market is your best bet.

Hi, Having just purchased today a 21inch slimfit crt tv (for a caravan) you have got me a bit worried with your comment "they don't make them anymore and there's a good reason for that." Had it up and running and it looks pretty good is there a problem with them?

This is very good value if you can accomodate it:

http://www.dixons.co.uk/martprd/stor...ory_oid=-34478

£189 for 32".

14 reviewers rate it, but comment on the size and weight.

If yours is up and running you will be okay. The quality controlon these was poor and an awful lot left the factory with geometry problems.
