Philips CRT 29PT6807 - barrel distortion...How to rectify..?

Hi all,
I had bought a new Philips 29" TV - model 29PT6807/94 - about a month ago. A few days after the purchase I had noticed that the picture is not completely shown. It appears stretched in such a way that the channel logos to the right were cut off by an inch or so. Also the image was distorted - barrel distortion probably - straight lines appeared curved outwards..
for eg.. | was seen as )

This too was more on the right side than left.. And there were two small pale greenish patches towards the right and left upper corners of the screen also.

I got the TV replaced a few days ago, but now the new replaced TV also shows similar problems, though they are comparatively less severe..

My doubts:
1. Why does the distortion occur..? Can it be due to voltage fluctuations? Can it be due to problems in cable signal..?
2. How can it be corrected..? Can it be done by ourselves? I'm reluctant to go to Philips service centre again - they are so incompetent and lazy..
3. What about the patches..? Can they be corrected..? What caused them..? LEt me clarify that I do not have any speakers near the sides of the TV

Any help would be appreciated.. Thanks..!

This isn't a UK make, but I know that these Slimline TV's tend to have purity and geometry issues. There's probably not much you can do yourself, but a qualified engineer might be able to make adjustments in the service menu, which may (or may not) improve things.
