Toshiba CN32V71... intermittent loss of tuner function

My Toshiba CN32V71 Cinema Series has an intermittent loss of tuner. Using the tv's tuner, and at random it will go to all snow. But when I run the signal from the Panny VCR and use the Panny tuner, it displays properly.
In other words, the Tosh tuner goes out... then I have to click the "TV, ANT 1; ANT 2; VIDEO; COLORSTREAM" selector from the tv's tuner, and use the tuner from the VCR.
I am trying to find out if there is a mechanical internal switch that is dusty or dirty; because it acts up at random almost like a dirty contact somewhere.
I am disabled and it will be hard for me to try and slide the tv out... but if anyone could confirm my thought and tell me if there is indeed a mechanical source selector, then I'd try to find it and spray the contact with contact cleaner.
I hope I explained my problem accurately.... and I hope someone can tell me about my thoughts because my medical situation wont allow a new tv right now.

You're probably wondering... why not use the tuner from the Panasonic VCR. Yes, that's a great option... But my elderly Mom has so much trouble with that remote; I am constantly trying to fix the tv for her.
And the remote that I always used for the Tosh was a easy to use RCA remote bought at Home Depot, of all places... but it works great.

So that's why I'm really hoping that I can somehow try and fix the Toshiba. Can anyone shed some light, maybe?

Thanks very much... Tommy

Re: Toshiba CN32V71... intermittent loss of tuner function

Anyone, please? I have setup my small 19" Toshiba for my elderly Mom, but she cannot see the screen... it's too small for her.
Anyone have any clue regarding the 32" Toshiba?

Hi, this is a mainly UK/Europe based forum and we don't have the same models/chassis released here as your side of the pond but there are no mechanical selection switches in modern TVs...some Toshiba models released here around 7-10 yrs ago have faulty tuners which cause no/intermittent loss of signal...replacement of the tuner is usually required or the services of a specialist repair company.

Re: Toshiba CN32V71... intermittent loss of tuner function

Hi JayCee; thanks so much for your reply.
Yup, I kind of thought that too, darn it... The only reason I mentioned a possible dirty switch was because when the set worked fine, it was normal to hear an actual click when you toggles between ANT/!; Color Stream; ANT/2.

And when the tuner goes out, I can only watch the tv by feeding the audio & video from the VCR next to it. That would be fine with me, but my Mom (89 years old) ia having such a hard time with the VCR remote control. So I was hoping sooooo much that it might be something I could spray with contact cleaner and "cross my fingers" and have it fixed.

Shame too, that Toshiba is absolutely beautiful in displaying analog video; a great tv. Well... thank you again my friend... I guess I'll have to either troubleshoot a bit more, or try to locate a repair man somewhere. I'm a disabled guy and don't have too much $$$, if you know what I mean. That's why I wanted to try a repair myself.

Take care my friend... Tommy
