Samsung CS 34 problemos

Bought a Samsung CS 34A10HE about 2 years ago. Its is a 4:3 34" CRT HDTV that is supposed to be capable of 1080i. Being in Kenya, there has been no way to test the HD ability until I recently got an Xbox 360. Unfortunately it seems that it doesn't want to do HD properly! I set the Xbox to 1080i and I get an image, but the picture is very narrow, almost half the screen is taken by black strips on either side of the image (left and right). In the menus it does not let me change any aspect ratio. What can I do? Or have I been ripped off into buying an early HDTV that simply doesn't really do HD !?

What about service menu access?
