Sony KD28DX40U won't switch on

I have a SONY KD28DX40U which will not switch on, standy light does 2 red flashes every 2 seconds. What does this light mean? is it worth repairing?

Thanks

Ps before this problem the screen would go purple when watching a program but would go away if set turn off and on again. Happened about once every 3 months.

That is an error code, 2 flashes = error code 2. Basically the TV has detected a fault and shut down, could be as basic as a bad solder joint, or a major power supply or field or line output fault. Needs an engineer really, most placed will give you a free quote.

Yes, over the phone perhaps.
Very few TV repairmen can afford to invest time/petrol to visit someone for free nowadays...would you work for free?

Currys repair centres only do their own stuff that they've sold.
That's certainly the last place on earth that'd do a free estimate

I am not sure about your prices; I have had multiple parts of a Grundig CRT replaced for 70 pounds in the past. And, if I am right that this is a pretty high-end TV, even your price would be an economical repair, esp. if one's options start and end in the abundant LCD crap.

YMMV, as may the OP's.
