Panasonic Widescreen TV

Hi,

First post here so please be gentle. Sorry if it's in the wrong forum.

I have a 8 year old Panasonic 36" TV which has this morning decided not to switch on, even though last night it was working fine. There is the red power led on the front and it tries to switch on, you see a white line across the middle of the screen for a couple of seconds and then it switches back to standby. Anyone had a similar problem and how did you get it fixed?

Would it be worth getting it repaired or is there a chance it'll fail again?

Cheers.

Re: Panasonic Widescreen TV

Sounds like frame collapse to me, you'll need to repace the frame chip though unfortunately this kind of error often has a knock on effect on other components. Time/cost will vary depending on your model though usually bigger the TV, more expensive the repaiir.

Re: Panasonic Widescreen TV

You have two major problems (apart from the fault).

(1) The TV is 8 years old

(2) It weighs over 80kg.

I suspect that when you mention this to a repairer that you won't see him for dust!

So, yes it's repairable, but probably not economic to do so.

Sorry I can't be more hopeful.

Re: Panasonic Widescreen TV

It could be dry joints on the frame IC.
A good engineer would do the repair on-site.

Re: Panasonic Widescreen TV

what should i be looking to pay for a call-out? what about for repair to the frame IC?
Is this fault likely to occur again or should it last a while once fixed?

anyone had similar problems before? if so, did you get it fixed?

Model is Panasonic TX-W36D3DP/U if it helps.

Re: Panasonic Widescreen TV

JayCee answered the question in December....

Cost? Call out plus an hour max. Depends what that is in your part of the world. Unlikely to be the frame IC, probably dry joints - as JayCee said.

Re: Panasonic Widescreen TV

thanks guys, unfortunately most companies up here have moved onto plasma/lcd repair and don't bother with crt any more. i was quoted about £60 all in from one guy in leeds but not sure how long the tv will last after that. do you guys think it's worth the repair?

Re: Panasonic Widescreen TV

Only you can decide if it's worth spending money on Harry... There should be plenty of life left in the monster yet.

There's a Grumpy Old **** in Bradford who can still repair CRT's.
