HD on my telly

my telly at the rear has a 2 scart sockets and two round holes (one red, one white)..which should i conect my ps3 into 2 get high def?..my mate (who workds for comet, so bit of a AV geek) says the red and white holes are for componant cables and I should get the most expensive cable available to acheive the hightest quality picture. He also said to consider a HDiM convertor which connects onto a scart lead and give you the best picture available.

any help would be greatly appreciated

Re: HD on my telly

Please tell us the make and model of your TV.
Incidentally component uses 3 RCA (phono) sockets, not 2.

Re: HD on my telly

It doesn't sound like you have an HDTV; it also sounds like your mate needs a slap
If you don't have an HDTV, you can't "get HD" from your PS3, or any other source for that matter.

The Red and White holes are stereo audio connections they could be inputs or outputs.

You have no choice but to connect your PS3 by Scart to your TV; you will not be seeing HD in this setup, as it is not possible with your TV.

As for the illusive and useless Scart to HDMI adapter - No.

Re: HD on my telly

You cannot get HIDEF through scart sockets, only the component sockets. The red and white ones on the back of your TV are the audio outs.

Re: HD on my telly

Mate your TV is NOT capable of displaying High Definition resolution. You can throw any signal at it but it will only ever display Standard Definition as that is all it is capable of displaying.

Re: HD on my telly

Scart will never give you HD, your Mate should think of getting into a new trade and stop mis-leading customers. The best you will get is SD connected by a RGB Scart cable.
Here is a component cable (Video only no sound) http://www.tvcables.co.uk/cgi-bin/tvcables/CP001.html
which you would need to get HD, plus another cable (2xphonos) not to be confused with component but is for audio.

Do not forget your local retailers are pushed hard to flog way over priced cables that nobody really needs to pay the amount advertised for.

You cannot connect those cables to your TV.
Your TV does not have component inputs.

If someone "Works for Comet" that means that anything remotely technical to do with audio and video that comes out of their mouths is almost guaranteed to be absolute garbage.

Slap him twice.

Slightly off topic, but, what is an "Ex Member"? As the OP only joined yesterday is he going for the shortest membership on record?

Yeah big bloody wind-up! Unfortunately I have encountered people who actually are this stupid so I gave him the benefit of the doubt, that'll teach me!
