Panasonic TX DT4 HELP!

Hi

I was hoping someone might be able to offer me help with my televison which is a Panasonic TX-32DT4. I have only owned it for about 4 years but it appears to have broken! I use it to watch digital but also have it tuned in to analogue.

When you turn the tv on it makes a kind of buzz and short rattle - has done since new, but recently it has started sounding more harsh. A couple of days ago when I turned on the tv it didnt make this noise but it claimed not to have any signal, either on analogue or digital, I think bbc one had some very poor coverage. A couple of hrs later I turned it back on and the rattle noise was back as were all my channels! However the next day exactly the same thing happened.

Today it has done the same but has not come back to life. The analogue has now lost all signal, however, the tv still works perfectly for watching video/dvd through - it literally just does not pick up any signal. I have checked the connection to the tv and it appears snug and I have tested my small tv and can confirm that the ariel and cable are fine.

Does anyone have any ideas what has happened? Im reluctant to call out an engineer as they cost so much and may not be able to solve the problem, aslo with xmas coming up!

Any idea muchly appreciated!

THanks
Steve

Re: Panasonic TX DT4 HELP!

I take it no one else has ever had this problem to advise!

Incase it helps I thought I had worked out that the problem must be occuring between where the ariel plugs into the back of the tele and the creating of the image, so i bought an external digital receiver so i could connect through the SCART socket.

I thought it was sorted but the signal is now doing the same thing through the new box. I note that it says the singal strength is always around about 60-70% and the signal qulaity is 100% when working and 0% when not.

I am so confused!

Re: Panasonic TX DT4 HELP!

There is no doubt you have a loose connection or fault somewhere in your aerial system.
The unit "where the ariel plugs into the back of the tele and the creating of the image" is the "Tuner" and they do give trouble in a lot of Panasonic TVs but not usually the DT4 series...as the Digital Freeview box plugged in via scart bypasses that and the trouble is still happening intermittently then that only leaves the aerial system or downlead as the guilty partner...if the aerial downlead goes to your TV via a VCR or anything else, unplug it and connect the aerial directly into the TV for a few days and see if the problem persists.
