1024x576 50hz with Loewe vga mod

Ok I have been running my crt on 640x480 for a while and had tried upping the resolution with little success.

I gave it another go tonight and managed to get 1024x576 working for Pal 50hz and 848x480 for NTSC 60hz.

Information on doing so can be found here: http://www.htcentral.net/index.php?s...0&hl=loewe+vga

This has probably been touched on before but I thought I would post it as it could be very useful for some Loewe owners.

The VGA upgrade costs around £100 with installation and can be done by some Loewe dealers. My reason for doing so was to prolong the life of my CRT before I buy a plasma, and generally I have been very pleased with it.

Im currently running it at 1024x768 and it has a few minor geometry issues as it has small black boarders down the side but I can put up with that. It seems to play Pal dvd's and most SD avi's with no problems. I tried some 1080p HD content and it played fine but got a scrolling band going down the screen, this is probably a refresh issue.

I tried the HD content on 848x480 and it played fine with no scrolling band.

If you already own a Loewe crt and want to run a media pc then this is certainly a cheaper option than buying an LCD or plasma. Sure its got its isses and is a bit of a fiddle to setup but for £100 you cant complain

Thanks to jmackay2 for reminding me to look into this, I hope you manage to get it up and running soon

Re: 1024x576 50hz with Loewe vga mod

Ok I have just tried some 720p material at 1024x576 50hz and it ran perfectly with no scrolling band so it looks like source material could affect it a bit but Im still very impressed.

I have taken a quick snap with my phone camera but it does not really do it justice, you can tell from the desktop icons that its running at a decent resolution, you can see that there is a bit of a black bar at the edges but nothing too serious.

Can you not eliminate the underscan using powerstrip?

I agree. Its been a while since I've fiddled with powerstrip, but the underscan can the refresh issue may be solved by keep fine tuning with powerstrip.

Im sure If I tweak powerstrip a bit I will get better results, I have not used it much before so I dont really know exactly what I need to change.

This is my last day at work for a couple of weeks so I should have a bit more time to tweak things next week

Hopefully I can get it to fullscreen properly too.

It's worth a try but I wouldn't hold your breath. I know on my Sansung slimfit whenever I tried to remove overscan, it would get to a certain size but pushing it any further made the signal completely cut-out until it was restored.
