Philips 32PW8608: Can I set the default channel/source to EXT 1?

My 3 year old Philips 32PW8608 CRT-TV is only used for satellite TV with an external tuner. However, when I turn on my TV, I always have to set it to channel EXT 1 manually.

Is there some setting that sets the default channel to EXT 1?

If your Satt box is connected by scart and switched on...whenever the TV is turned on by the on-off switch...not from standby...it should then autoswitch to that AV input...it should also switch to that AV input if the TV is on and the Satt box is switched on from standby

Hey, thanks for your response. You're right, it should. But my sat-receiver is connected to my scart socket via a switchbox (along with my DVD player and PS2). For some reason, this prevents the 'switch'-signal from being sent to my TV. (I wasn't really clear on this in my first post.)

That's because it isn't a fully-wired switchbox.
One of the better types of RGB-Capable scart switchboxes will do the trick

It does support RGB, there's a button on the box to switch it on and off (my TV has only 1 RGB capable scart input, that's why I had to use the box). My TV detects it when I switch from non-RGB to RGB. But still, there's probably one wire (pin 8?) not connected.

So it looks like I should buy a new switchbox, or find a workaround by defaulting the TV to EXT 1.

You could try this from the faqs on your model taken from here

Question
Set channels as favourite.

Answer
Hold down both installation buttons on the remote control simultaneously.
Select FAVOURITE PROGRAMMES and press 'OK'.
Select a channel using the up or down cursor.
Change favourite mode (Yes = favourite=do not skip; No = not favourite=skip) using the left or right cursor.
Non favourite channels can be selected with numeric buttons.

So you could try skipping all prog nos you don't want leaving EXT1 unskipped as a "Favourite"

Thanks again. We seem to be thinking much alike because I already tried this trick. I have selected just one channel (EXT 1) as a favourite but unfortunately this only has effect when switching channels up and down (when the TV is already ON).

The problem is that I cannot switch on the TV (from stand-by) without it selecting a channel. It always goes to channel 1, even when I switch it on by pushing the AV-button or the down-button on the remote. When I switch it on using a number-button, it goes to that numbered channel.

So after switching it on (and waiting a few seconds for it to actually turn on), I always have to press the AV- of channel-up/down button to see my sat-TV. This must seem like quite a small problem (which it is, in fact ) but it's really annoying.
