DROPPED my Toshiba CRT!

While moving house I cleverly dropped my Toshiba CRT (28YT56). I set it up and turned it on, the redlight came on but no picture. I took the back off and check there was nothing broken and made sure everything was properly plugged in and it worked again.... for two days. I doubt there's anything seriously wrong with it, but can anyone recommend a repair chap in N1 London who could potentially fix it, without charging any number of arms and legs?

Thanks
G

There's probably a hairline crack in the main circuit board...that's why it's intermittently working.

Re: DROPPED my Toshiba CRT!

thanks - that sounds pretty bad. Is it repairable? Do you know anyone in London (pref north) that can do the job (no liability will be attributed for a recommendation!). Do you have an idea how much that could cost?

Thanks again
Garry

Re: DROPPED my Toshiba CRT!

Sorry, don't know anyone in your area.
Check your local newspapers and Yell.com
As to it being repairable...only an engineer inspecting it can comment...we don't know the extent of the damage.
It could be something as cheap as a simple solder joint intermittently making contact...or a major hairline crack across the circuit board.

Re: DROPPED my Toshiba CRT!

Thanks again. Presumably if it works intermittently, it's a minor crack which only opens when the set heats up. I've located a backstreet place 5 streets away that might be able to do the soldering (assuming it's a minor crack, and he can find it) and if it's a new board, presuming they're really pricey, I guess I'd be as well to fulfil my LCD dream...

Re: DROPPED my Toshiba CRT!

Have you checked you household contents insurance ? Might be covered under 'accidental damage'.
I claimed for a computer monitor a couple of years ago after dropping it. This was back in the days when 19" CRT monitors were worth something

Re: DROPPED my Toshiba CRT!

that's a point! Would be unusual to ever get anything back from insurance, but worth a try!

I knocked my 19" CRT monitor off the table and onto a lino'd solid concrete floor. The case corner was cracked and dented but the monitor worked fine to my surprise.
