Question Sony KD28DL10U Freeview Inoperative?

Hi people, hope somebody can help me. I have just purchased a second hand Sony KD28DL10U widescreen tv with a freeview receiver built in. Unfortunately, the set did'nt come with an instruction manual. I have tuned the tv into channels 1-5 no problem, but when i press the digital option on the remote, it says 'the programmes are not stored' at the top of the screen. Just wondered if anyone had any ideas of how to get it working? Many thanks. Gary.

Re: Sony KD28DL10U Freeview Inoperative?

Are you aware there are two aerial sockets and there should be a short RF cable to loop-through the signal from the digital tuner to the analogue tuner.
The aerial goes to the top aerial socket nearest the scart sockets and an RF Flylead (male to female) coax from the bottom socket to the socket to its right and above (looking from the rear).
In any case you need to retune the digital tuner to your local transmitter.
I can send you a .pdf of the setup instructions if you pm me an email address.

Re: Sony KD28DL10U Freeview Inoperative?

Thanks for your assistance jaycee, but I still can't get the freeview to operate. I have plugged the aerial in either through my dvd recorder and back to the telly, or directly to the tv. Both methods pick up channels 1-5 fine via autotune, but the freeview channels are none existent. Does this model need a freeview card, or is there a chance that it's just knackred? Thanks, Gary.

The aerial must be connected to the TV Aerial in socket as shown in the installation manual...you then connect your DVDR between the other two sockets as shown.
From memory I don't think you can access the digital tuning menu from the remote...strange as it sounds...these sets were an oddity.
Is there a setup button on the front...under the drop-down flap under the screen?...if there is press it and it should autotune both analogue and digital.

Re: Sony KD28DL10U Freeview Inoperative?

Further info re tuning the digital side...It is different from
the KD28DL11 and not accessed from the menus. Press the '?' button while in Digital mode and it takes you to the setup.

Sorry, I no longer have it to hand...it's stored on a hard drive on an old non-working PC.
If you have a problem with connecting or tuning it all the details are in this thread.

Re: KD28DL10U Freeview Inoperative?

Hello dear AVforum people,
I'm a 1st-Poster so hoping to 'meet' some of you!

I know the start of this thread is old, but it describes exactly my problem.
Just acquired this model, and could only tune in analogue stations - no digital at all. Have followed suggestions in this thread, connecting back aerial sockets with male to female coax, accessing Digital set-up menu from ? button. It goes through the search process and comes back saying no programmes found and to check aerial. I know my aerial is ok, as it works with our existing digital freeview tv.

Did any of you have success in updating firmware or getting hold of the .pdf manual?

Thanks in anticipation
JonP

Assuming you are in a region that can receive terrestrial Freeview it is probably due to software version your set has. With big digital retune last year some older Sony CRT sets with in-built Freeview (not sure about your particular one) presented problems like yours afterwards. I think there's a list of such TVs on the Sony web site.

As far as I know the only way to resolve the problem is to get in a Sony engineer in who, presumably, may be able to update the software. Not cheap I suspect.

I was lucky because, apparently, my Sony CRT would have had the same problem if my software had been up to date. But I'd switched off the automatic updating option as I then rarely used it for TV broadcast viewing (mostly gaming). Left me with an old software version and it is pure luck that it doesn't have the same issue.

Sorry not to be more help but good luck sorting it out.

This is not true.

I just bought one of these TVs, second hand, for 10 pounds and after some jiggery pokery, I got it to work with two aerials. It primarily picked up analogue but now it gets the freeview signal. I would not have been able to do this if I hadn't read the helpful information above.

I will be trying the way illustrated above after I have been to some cheaper electrical stores than the ones I have in my town, but if you want an answer to whether this TV can pick up freeview channels?

Yes, it can.
