Missing 3d-sound now i have comp. vid.

Right then, got me some component video leads today. They link a Tosh sd220e dvd player to a Tosh 32zd26 tv. Also using some audio leads for sound into the back of telly. Can't afford proper surround gear yet.

Anyhoo, I've lost the kind of semi-3d surround sound that I had! Heres my fave example. In Lord of the Rings, go to the scene where the hobbits fall down the cliff and land on a path. Bilbo senses the approaching Ringwraith and they hide under a tree.
Well, as they climb down under the tree you can here what I reckon is two birds fly away, a couple of seconds apart. With my stuff connected by scart lead the sound of the first bird seems to be coming from a point about four feet to the right of my tv. With component vid and audio leads the sound now sound like it's from the dead centre of the picture!!!!!

What gives? I'm gutted. Any ideas and solutions. I have fiddled with every sound combination but can't get it back....

If the dvd has been set to use an optical or digital connection this is used for the sound from the dvd. However some dvd's have extras with mono sound only. On my tosh dvd I have only an optical connection and can't even here these sound tracks. I guess in yours this is all that is being sent as you don't have the proper connector installed. I think it assumes that if you have a component connection you will also have the decent sound connection as well. On my set I have to tell the tv to use the optical connection for dolby digital in with the component connection and this prevents it seeing the mono sound you are getting.
