Widescreen switching

Hi all,
How do people have their TV set for this? Auto or manual?
I have noticed that when set to auto, my Sony TV sometimes cannot decide whether the picture should be w/s, zoom or smart and flicks between them now and then. This only happens with TV transmissions, both digital and analogue. DVD is OK
The TV is about 3 years old - FX60U.

This was a known problem with older Sony sets. They tried to be clever about switching modes and most of the time it just goes pear shaped, as you've noticed. Most people leave it turned off as a result.

Auto-Switching on the FX66 works a treat.. I leave it in smart generally then it switches to widescreen depending on the broadcast

AUTO, everything in correct aspect ratio.

I had one of those old Sony WS TVs and whilst ok with broadcasts it wasn't so with DVD extras for some reason.
If they were in 4:3 then it would constantly toggle between 4:3 and Wide, which drove me mad!
