Philips 9607

I've just got a 9607 and was wondering if anyone had any advice on how I should set it up? What features should be on/off? What have people found to be the best way to connect a DVD player? What about contrast, colour etc?

I watched a DVD last night and it was a bit like an explosion in a pixel factory. It was a drama so there wasn't exactly huge amounts of things going on on the screen at the one time, but I suspect it I've just set things up wrong.
