Unhappy Sony 44px2 - can't wait much longer.

hi all, just trying to find out how long you guys had to wait for your 44px2 to arrive.
mine's been on backorder since the middle of november, just phoned my local dealer who said sony have no stock at present.
could be next week, will keep me posted.
just wondering whether large chains get preferential treatment over small indies regarding limited stock or is this the norm.

out of interest whats the longest anyone has waited for that must have piece of kit ?

I order mine in the First week of November,i was given a delivery date of December 14th.After a couple of phone calls to Comet, chasing things up ,it was delivered on November the 13th.They said the stock had arrived early ,i suppose it depends on who you have bought from.2months does sound a long time though.

I Have been quoted 48 hrs delivery from Hispek, in the end I got a price-match from a Sony Centre (they swear they have stock) and it is due to arrive next week (fingers crossed)

All the big ones - RGB,PRC,COMET, EMPIRE,UNBEATEBLE seem to be out of stock for at least 2 weeks

You are not alone Graham. I had to wait a similar length of time for my PX2.... but it was worth the wait. I had to get mine from a local independent retailer aswell. The sony replaced a faulty 36" Tosh that I'd bought from them.

Hi All
Well my 44PX2U arrived this morning I know after weeks of comparing reading all reports and looking at rear projections working, I have made the right choice. Absolutely brilliant set up was a breeze even my wife is impressed and believe me that’s a first. Only problem I had was the delivery people would not take it upstairs saying it was against health and safety for them to lift upstairs yea right so my mate had to help me get it up . Well to sum it up if your not sure which rear projection to go for then you wont go wrong with the Sony KP-44PX2U. And just one more thing check you can get in your house with no tight corners as the stand is fixed you cant part them I only just managed it phew

i'm humming and arring whether to go for the px2 or a 36 inch. I've also looked at the Tosh 42 inch. Most of the rear projection sets on display give crap pictures I shall be sitting approx 8 or so feet from the screen. Can anyone tell me if this would be ok for a 44 inch or would i be better settling for the 36inch
Thanks

I sit about 9 foot away from mine and I think the picture is great. I had a 36 Panny crt previously and i cant see any difference in picture quality. In fact i think the rp picture is better if anything

I'd be careful about how close you are sitting to the set. I did have the PX2 and I was about 8 foot away(maybe a bit less) - normal TV viewing was brilliant, dvds brilliant, football wasn't that good(thats why I gave it back) - but I think that was cos I was sitting too close. ALso I use to get quite a few headaches cos the screen is so big.

you go to the store and have a look and think "ah, it aint that big it'll fit in my living room no problem" - but then when you take it home you think "Oh sh*t!!"

Just be careful...it is a very set

Kanu has a good point there. The closer you sit, the picture will get a little worse. However this applies to all big screen tcs. CRT included. I could not sit closer than I do (8/9 foot) However my brother was home at xmas and he sat about 5 foot from it and he thought it was great. Its all down to personal preference. they are a big set though and take up a fair bit of room.

£1600 at Comet? I saw this TV in the Sony store Bluewater for £1999 and when I saw it for £1589 on unbeatable.co.uk etc I thought it was a bargain. However if you can get them for £1600 at comet then they should be available for around £1300 somewhere as Comet as always expensive [no swearing or libel please - Fraggle]. I have always used comet as a benchmark and would only look to buy when prices are approx £300 less than Comet. As for the Sony store I have no idea how these punks are still running and indeed am really puzzled why anyone would by from these stores as their prices are always ridiculous.

The Comet price is the online price, in store it is still close to 2K, they like to highlight the difference, but occasionally people will still match. All these TVs end up being mail-order anyway as you can't stuff them in the boot of your car, so once you have seen it, just find the cheapest price. Remember no salesman in a non-specialist outlet is going to add anything to your purchase experience.

I got my PX2 last Tuesday - absolutely amazing. It's got a few minor niggles & an engineer is coming out this week to sort them out (geometry slightly out & hiss when using the RF socket).

Anyway, best thing is it was only £1200 from Empire Direct as it's in their sale - I had quick delivery & good service so far. Just hoping that the small problems can be sorted easily.

hi shaun, its weird this thread has come back today, as mine (i'm on px2 no.4 btw) has just returned from a 6 week stint with an engineer today. and its still the same.
the red gun is way out of focus for about 5" on the right hand side of the screen. most noticeable on skysports news, with the scrolling headlines.
its apparantly been re-programmed with eprom codes, but it makes no difference.

i can catagorically say that the sony 44px2 is the worst thing i have EVER bought.

and spooksta, i would'nt buy one for £ 12.49 let alone £1249.

sony used to be a quality brand.

the saga continues.....
went to see my retailer today to arrange for collection of tv, expecting a refund he is now replacing it with a 44dx2, just out.
no i don't think so, but it's just arrived in his warehouse as a swap out for my px2.
is this wise ? the only difference in spec i can see is the digital tuner.
this is it though, (no. 5), any sign of trouble and i'll be talking to my lawyer.

I've had my px2 for about 4 weeks now, been trying to get someone out for 2 weeks to see it - dosgy audio on RF socket.
Have now been told by Empire Direct that Sony aren't shipping PX2's to them anymore but they will replace it for the dx2 which comes out shortly.
I have to pay half the difference & they will pay half but as far as I can see it's the same TV just with a digital tuner as you said.

Anyway - think I'll swap it, dont fancy going through all the hassle of waiting for a refund, it's been bad enough trying to get ED to call me back anyway, after 15 or so phonecalls!!

Changed my mind from the Sony.
Went to Curry's tonight and saw the new Tohisba models. They have a way smaller footprint than the Sony, plus user selectable 100mzh, plus progressive scan. Fair enough I am losing 2 inches in screen size but I think I am making up for it in vision quality. Bought one this evening on unbeatable.

And you gain Component input on the Tosh's, which the Sony lacks.

Good one. You won't be disappointed. Read some of my RP tweaks I've posted - search for "42PW23P" and "nathan_silly"

Will Do Nathan_silly.
One of the thinks that swung me towards towards the Toshiba, was a useless Sony site. Toshiba let you view the user manual and see the connections, thereby saving your time and the shops time. The Sony site was a pretty picture and little else.

Aparantly these new Thosiba model, 42PW23P, has an element of self convergance as well.
