Question Improvements of a progressive scan player on an analog TV?

Hie, I have a Sony 32LS60 TV and plan to purchase a new DVD player. I've been reading in the forums that the Toshiba 520E is a popular DVD player becoz' of its progressive scan capabilities at a reasonable price.

However, I realise that to benefit from a progressive scan output, eg from a progressive scan DVD player, my TV must be HD ready or be able to receive a 480p video source. If I'm not mistaken, I think my Sony TV is merely an analog TV - hence, it will not be able to accept the digital output. Is this correct? I'm still very naive about the whole progressive scan thing.

So, would it be better if I saved my money and go for a cheaper DVD player with the basic functions?

Also, since I've read that Pioneer DVD players have problems with the LS60 models, it rules out alot of DVD players in mind and now I'm having problems deciding which 'brand' to go for.

Thanks!

I think you have got all confused mate. You cant view progressive scan on you TV because you dont have Component Video sockets, which is what the toshiba dvd has on the back of it to out put the picture, it also has RGB scart so you can still buy one and connect it to you TV and get a very good picture. Up to you whether you want to spend that much on a dvd player, in my opinion it would be worth it as its a superb player no matter how you conect it.

It should also be pointed out that having component YPrPb sockets on a TV still doesn't mean it can accept a progressive scan signal from a suitably equipped source.

The answer to your question is that you can't use the prog scan output with your TV though.
