How do you throw away a CRT?

OK so I have a near broke CRT that might not shift on eBay

If worst comes to worst - how am i sposed to dispose of it?

Can't put it in the bin as its too big.
Its probably not safe to dismantle it myself

Throw it down a hill, especially if it has a stream running at the botttom thats what people seem to do round our way......seriously though, Take it to your local rubbish tip or dump, or give it to a charity shop/shelter etc...

A lot of Charity shops won't take Electrical/Electronic goods in in case someone buys one and gets electrocuted in which case they'd be held liable.
Your local council will probably pick it up and dispose of it if you phone them.

Re: How do you throw away a CRT?

Just to let you know as of 1 July 2007 there is a now a New WEEE Directive on disposal of electrical goods. You can ask the company that you buy your new TV form to dispose of your old one. http://www.voscur.org/node/1574

Re: How do you throw away a CRT?

Regarding the charity shops situation, this is a common problem. In our area the charity shops refer everyone to a particular charity shop that happens to have a qualified electrical engineer (don't know if that's his real title) on their staff.

Stick it in a brown box and leave it out on the street with a large sign stating "DO NOT TOUCH".
It will be gone within the hour...job done.

Wrong, totally wrong, chain it to a bicycle with a lock that is worth more than the combined value of the TV and the bike, guarantee it'll be gone.

It is quite amusing putting "free" on stuff out in the road and watching nobody take it!!!

Yes and then weep at the loss of losing your expensive padlock

Just place the TV in the middle of a road at night when almost everyone is asleep.

I guarantee someone will take it away or move it because its blocking the road

Excellent idea, because that's not likely to cause an accident at all to some poor sod driving home.
