New tube or new TV ?

Hi chaps ... just looking for a bit of advice before I venture back to the repair shop !
A few months back I noticed patches of 'colour' appearing around the edges of my Sony KV-28DS60 (I've looked through other posts, and now realise this isn't entirely unheard of !), just when the set was nicely out of warranty.

I took it to a local Sony approved repair shop, who as well as the usual degaussing, also (I quote) "removed scan yoke, reset convergence & purity with spot wobbler, resealed scan coils".

This didn't make a blind bit of difference, but I didn't take it back, as I'd just moved house, and I didn't fancy lugging the beast back down 2 flights of stairs, just after I'd lugged it up.

So I really have a couple of questions:
1) To those in the know, does this sound like a permanent tube fault (there have never been any magnets/metallic objects near where the patches are showing)
2) If so, does anyone have an idea of how much this is likely to set me back i.e should I just bite the bullet and invest in a new set ?

Sorry for rambling, appreciate your time.

Thanks.
