Good 32", not walet busting, hehe!

Hi, as usual, I'm not beating around the bush. Straight to the point. I would like a decent 32" (36" maximum) for my room. Heres the specifications I'm looking for.
  • At least one component input.
    2 or more Scart inputs.
    A headphone or stereo output.
A red white and yellow A/V input.
These brands only: Panasonic, Sony, JVC (I hear they're good) or Toshiba.
    Not wallet busting.

The TV has to be progressive scan, and no HD options please, unless they're quite cheap. Obviously, the TV must be CRT.

Thanks for reading,
Ash.

Humm, not tried looking yourself? Get off your arrse and look. Plenty of reviews in the forum... CRT's are not about much, try Argos.

There can't be that many CRTs with progressive input. I know of none, but that's no surprise. Other than that, you are probably looking in the used market; the only CRTs I have seen recently are of the dirt-cheap type.

Those, sir, are the words of a wally. Anyone is quite within their rights to post a question on a forum. If you don't want to answer it, don't.

Anyway. I'd recommend having a look at the Toshiba 32zp range. They do most of what you want, and are mainly pretty swish. Have a read and see which would be to your taste (there's a few threads in here about them) and then look on eBay for a good deal.

The JVC 32hvp37 is great - hd (1080i over component), 3 scarts - 2 are rgb, 1 S-video and available on Ebay for under £200 pounds.

Thanks, I'll search for one. Would you say all the newer JVC CRTs are decent?

Thanks for sticking up for me, and yeah I have been considering the 32ZPs for a while.

Also, what do you guys think of the Panasonic TX-32PL10?

Thanks,
Ash.

No, not all recent JVCs are decent. The same for Toshiba. Their latest non-premium products were rebadged Vestels or made by Vestel with huge sample variation. The JVC p37 and the p40 are a different ball-game, as is the Toshiba ZP line, the top Panasonics and the top Philips.

It bends your reqs a bit but a Samsung slimfit will do your component/progressive input.

Re: Good 32", not walet busting, hehe!

Okay, so I've narrowed it down to these babies:

Panasonic TX-36PL32
Panasonic TX-32PD50
Panasonic TX-32PD30
Toshiba 36ZP48
Toshiba 36ZP48P
JVC 32HVP37 - I can't seem to find any.

Right now I'm swaying towards the Toshibas, as they accept component with sound.

You mean you can find the others? Used I guess, eh? Note the PD50 superseded the PD30.

Sorry to hijack the thread but how much is the TX32PD50 selling for new? I've had one for about 18 months and I'm looking to sell it on ebay but can't find any previous used sales to go by

Re: Good 32", not walet busting, hehe!

I can give you a little round up of the Panasonic 36PL32, as I have recently purchased one.

I bought it off ebay for £ 175, about two months ago, this should give you some idea of current prices.

The picture can be stunning, given either a good Sky+ source or from DVD, make sure you play around with the settings for a while though, it took me a few days of tweaking to achieve optimum results.

A small gripe is with its connectivity, it has three scarts, two of which accept RGB. It also has a set of components and accepts progressive scan, BUT one of the RGB scarts shares with the component input, i.e. they are both AV4, the result of this is that if you have anything connected to the component input you lose the use of an RGB scart input. A little annoying!!

The only other small problem, is no dedicated audio input for the component, but it is not a problem for me, as I have a seperate sound system, as I am sure most others do.

In general I am very happy with the set and would reccommend to anyone who values picture quality over new technology, DVD is just exceptional!!!

Find a friend to help carry though, very heavy (and I mean VERY!!!!!!!)
