Well am in the market for a 36" CRT after our recently purchased Samsung 42" Plasma bit the bullet.

Any ideas or recommendations?

Toshiba 36ZP48 36"

i had one utill i replaced it with my panny plasma a couple of weeks ago.

as crt's go it was regarded very highly and the sound/picture quality is brilliant

Without being biased which picture is best the Toshiba or your newly acquired Plasma?

I would say the CRT all the way.......

Plasma / LCD are all very nice and look pretty wall mounted etc... but i have yet to see one (disregarding HD sources) as good as the Toshiba 36ZP48.

My cousin just got a 50" PDP-507XD Pioneer plasma and picture is very poor in comparison to my CRT. We both run children of men DVD, him on an upscaling dvd and on a standard pioneer DVD and me through an Xbox 360 on prog scan and there just wasnt any comparison. The pioneer was like watching a movie played through an N64.

If you can get hold of a 36" crt and have plenty of space then I would say go for it.

my honest opionion is the tosh is HUGE (at the back) but a really great TV. My gripe with the tosh was the size and the auto scaling of channels when using sky.

The Pioneer PDP4270XD look amazing when not even switched on i was worried about the quality of standard feeds i.e Sky (not hd) and not HD dvd's. the scaling is great and i get no streached images or black bars. I'm not disapointed

Sky looks great, i just bought a Philips DVP5960 HDMI DVD Player connected it via £18 - 5meter HDMI cable and its all good!!!!

I would only buy the Tosh if you cannot bring yourself to go for the Panny (big cost difference) and you have a large corner of your living room to hold it, thats my opionion
