Gaming on Tv's; faster?

Ok, wasnt too sure wether I should post this in the gaming section or the TV section, so I went for here. Ok, Im after a new TV and I wanted to get one that will allow 'faster' gameplay for my Ps2. If I play the Ps2 on the TV downstairs (nothing special about the TV, not LCD or plasma) the game (pro evolution soccer) runs very fast, and is generally a lot smoother. Its the same at a friends house. However on my TV upstairs it runs quite slow, its still playable obviously but its noticibly slower gameplay than downstairs.

Now my question was, why is this? I'm after a new TV today and plan to buy one this evening after work, but I'm not sure what I should go for, or what I should be looking for to ensure the gameplay is faster? I'm not after a new LCD or plasma for upstairs, I was thinking of buying one for around £200 (I saw a nice one in comet, Daewoo DUB2850) but as I saw, I'm not sure what I should be looking for to ensure the gameplay is fast. Is it something to do with how the Ps2 connects to the tv? Because at the moment I connect the Yellow, Red & white leads into the side of the tv. Is it something to do with the screen size? The TV I have at the minute upstairs is 26" - 28" approx visable screen (measured). Or is it something else?

I hope all that made sense! Here's hoping someone can give me the answer, thanks again

You are not imagining things! There is a lag in the video processing of LCD and Plasma TVs, generally 40+ milliseconds or so.

The more expensive the set (generally) the worse the lag is (more complex video processing). However, cheap sets have a horrible picture.

You pays your money and takes your pick...

Re: Gaming on Tv's; faster?

I always find if you connect your PS2 to the TV through an RGB enabled Scart socket it runs quicker than if you connect it 'normally' and if the game is an 'import' it will run faster (as long as the TV displays it correctly) as its made for an NTSC 60hz TV and not PAL 50 hz TV. Don't ask me to explain the technical bit as I am not 100% sure myself, just know that an NTSC game runs quicker than a PAL. I am sure that someone will explain it properly. To sum up, if you purchase a new TV just make sure its scarts are RGB enabled and it will run 60hz NTSC.
