Broken 36PD30, What's likely outcome?

I'm totally despondant!!. This morning whilst moving my tv to another room (to get new carpet fitted) we accidently droped the tv on the floor virtually smashing it to pieces .
My question is if the will the insurance (Comet) can not fix the tv what is the likely outcome. I ask this as the set cost me £1800 nearly 3 years ago and i would really like another 36PD30 but they do not stock them anymore and i don't want to go plasma or lcd as i am very happy with my crt.

ATB

Is your Comet insurance for breakdown only, or does it cover accidental damage?

Perhaps it's covered by your House Contents insurance.

Finally, the PD30/50 series was discontinued some time ago, so you'll be very hard pressed to find a new one.

Good luck.

Re: Broken 36PD30, What's likely outcome?

Thanks for your reply.

It is covered for accidental damage and the policy says that if they can't fix it they will give me an equivalent set, failing that comet vouchers for the purchase price.

My worry is that comet no longer stock my tv and of the crt's that they do stock come nowhere near the specs of my 36pd30. I'm gutted as it was a fantastic tv. Engineer picked it up this morning and says he doubts if they would be able to fix it

Cheers
Jon

Must have been Geoff Capes!

(Sorry, couldn't resist. )

I have one of these TV's and agree the picture is outstanding.

I think your only hope of a replacement is to find one second-hand, being sold by someone who puts plasma style above CRT display quality.

Still, at least you were insured.

you may be lucky and they may get a new tube for it, however chances are it will be wriiten off, comet vouvhers to £1800 wont really helkp much either you could sell them for £1500 or so and then trawl the country for a 36" CRT ther eare plasmas that can compare for PQ but not for £2800 and certainly not from comet may be worth noting the JVC36P38 was very similar spec to the PD (same tube) a mate has one but you'll be very lucky to find a new one even an exdemo will be a struggle Loewe may still do/stock a 36" but i think the factory that produced the 36" tubes for jvc and panasonic (and possibly Tosh ny the end ) has closed
