PAL to NTSC converter

Hi all, I'm hoping someone can help with this little problem. Basically, I have taken my UK PAL playstation 2 over to the US with the hope that I could use it over there during my stay. I was aware that there would be an issue with the PAL thing but thought I could buy a converter to resolve this. After looking on ebay, no problem. I can pick one up for around $20, but the ad states that the TV that it's being used on must have V hold to stop the picture rolling. Unfortunately my girlfriends TV (where I am staying in the states) doesn't have this so even if I get the converter, the picture is still gonna roll. Does anyone know of anything you can do to stop it rolling? If so i'll go out and get the converter. Thanks in advance.

Re: PAL to NTSC converter

That's a difficult one
It tends to be only older TVs that have manually adjustable vertical and horizontal hold controls.
If you can get the converter (or transcoder) on approval you could try it on the GF's TV because it might just sync up without adjustment.
Many TVs in Europe are PAL/NTSC compatible, not sure about north America ; although I spend quite a bit of time over there, I have never tried that (I'll be in Boston in 2 weeks time).

Re: PAL to NTSC converter

You can get digital standards converters but they are rather expensive, between £200 and £300.

It's alway a problem using PAL gear in the US because very few TV's are multi-standard.

Re: PAL to NTSC converter

Here is a converter... http://www.world-import.com/cmd1500.htm supposed to be good!!!

Just debating with myself if I should buy one! I have a UK B&O Avant 28 and have just moved to Boston USA...I have read on a few forums that the B&O AVANT is multi standard but have yet been able to get it to work! B&O are useless, told me to sell my European and buy a usa model!

Don’t suppose anyone has any ideas?
