LCD or CRT

Dear all

I am currently looking to purchase a new TV for under £700. The problem I am having is the various models available?????

My understanding that for a TV at this price a CRT picture is better ? True ??

My basic requirments are that that the screen is 28/32 inch and is HD ready. As I already have a surround sound (KEF system) incorpoated speakers are not an issue.

Any suggestions !!!!

Many thanks

Mike

Re: LCD or CRT

There is definitely a good argument that a CRT TV produces a better picture than an LCD one (with SD - standard definition feeds), but the fact that you want it to be HD ready almost kills off the CRT route - there is only one Manufacturer who sells an HD Ready CRT in this country, and that's Samsung - unfortunately, the set does not enjoy good press.

As to what LCD you should go for, I will leave that one to you - do your homework and find out what best serves your needs.

Best of luck.

Cheers,

Martin.

Re: LCD or CRT

Hi Mike, i went through the same process in October, fretting over whether i could get an lcd to match my crt's picture. ..

i settled on a sony 32v2000 which you might get at your budget.. it equals my crt in all areas apart from black level and exceeds it in others with good dvd's

sky sd is very watchable on it also

as with all these things, demo before you buy.. there's lots of things to consider with hd tv's.. the number of hdmi inputs... if its fully hd (can take a 1080p signal and display it) my set wont display 1080p but then there's an argument that you wouldnt notice the difference between 1080i or 720p or 1080p on a 32" set.. if you are looking at a 40" plus set i would defintelty be considering 1080p as a requirement..

Happy shopping with whatever you decide on

Cheers,
Mick

Re: LCD or CRT

I was in the same boat back in May and I went down the HD CRT route with the Samsung, although it's done it's job, give me a reasonable TV until 1080p became more widespread, I'm definitely looking to get an LCD now.

Re: LCD or CRT

I am convinced that a well set up CRT is better than LCD, which is why I dread the CRT going on the blink and having to resort to LCD, although a Samsung Slim CRT would be the best of both worlds, so I hope they gain in popularity.
