Hitachi C2977TN - code numbers constantly on screen.

Help!

Was wondering if anyone could help?

Trying to fix a TV for a friend.

When a DVD player, Sky box, game etc etc is plugged into the AV1 SCART socket a picture is displayed but the following code in the middle of the screen appears.

9BC 2977TN -3118

The code does dissappear when a menu such as the Master Menu is entered, but then re-appears when the menu is left.

After doing a search on the forums here, have tried the following:

1) Holding the Volume UP and Volume DOWN buttons on the front of the set and pressing the MENU button - Nothing happens.

2) Holding the MENU button down for five seconds - Nothing happens.

3) Going into the Service Menu by hitting 'Esc' key on the remote three times also doesn't give any options for getting rid of the code.

I also spoke to Hitachi Customer Services and they suggested holding down the bottom most buttons on the remote control, this should make the code change in the middle of the screen and eventually dissappear. Unfortunately, once again nothing happens.

Any suggestions?

The set is in service mode, to disable press the two record buttons on the remote until menu appears, then switch to standby & back on....or...

To enter Service Mode keep both "vol up/down" buttons pressed on at the Front of the set whilst switching on at mains switch.
Then press the "ESC" button on the remote.

Sir you are a scholar and gentleman!

The second one worked a treat, seemed to reset the set back to factory settings. Et voila! Fixed.

My next task is to adjust the picture as it doesn't quite fit the screen, but going to hunt on the net or here for some manuals or something.

Cheers again, much appreciated.
