Accessing Service menu on Toshiba 36ZP48?

Hi,

Could anybody please advise me how to get into the Service Menus on a Toshiba 36ZP48 TV as I need to make some adjustments to the geometry?

I have tried the below method:

1. Press the mute button on the remote
2. Press and hold the mute again whilst pressing the menu button on the TV set.

The above sequence causes a set of characters to appear in the top left corner of the screen and the letter S in the top right corner of the screen. However, there is nothing that seems recognisable as a service menu. The characters that appear in the top left corner are in 2 rows and are:

RCUT 0410H
60H 0110000B

I need to adjust the screen width to a narrower setting as lettering is getting lost offscreen on the left & right sides of the TV. Has anybody a list of settings with some clarification as to what is adjusted etc for this specific model and a bit of info as to how I adjust them.

I have the Video Essentials DVD so can use that as a guide but did not wish to make any adjustments until I was clear on what I was adjusting.

Re: Accessing Service menu on Toshiba 36ZP48?

From other poster's many moons ago.

1.

After searching some other Toshiba threads I figured out why I was having trouble getting into the service menu.

Service menu is accessed by using the remote, pressing mute THEN pressing and holding mute WHILE pressing the menu button ON THE TV.
To get the pattern up, press the SOURCE INPUT button several times (it'll cycle a red, a blue and a green screen before getting to the grid).

The correct procedure is: Press the mute button once (on remote), now press and hold the mute button (on remote), while holding the mute button press the menu button on the TV.

Here are some of the available settings you can tweak:
RCUT - Red Cutoff
GCUT - Green Cutoff
BCUT - Blue Cutoff
GDRV - Green Drive
BDRV - Blue Drive
BRTC - Brightness Centre
SCNT - Subcontrast
COLP - Colour (PAL?)
COLS - Colour (SECAM?)
SBY - May be something to do with conversion between Blue and Luma
SRY - May be something to do with conversion between Red and Luma
HPOS - Horizontal Position
HIT - Height
VLIN - Vertical Linearity
WID - Width
PARA - Parabola (i.e. Pin Cushion)
CNR - Corner PARA (better pincushion control at 4 corners)
TRAP - Trapeziod
CPAR - Centre PARA (better pincushion control at 4 corners)
HSC - Horizontal S-Correction (?)
VPS1 - Vertical Phase Shift (?)
CSAW - Centre SAW
OPT3 - I wouldn't touch things like this!

I have now managed to set the picture up a heck of a lot better. But be aware that getting one mode (widescreen for example) spot on often screws up some of the other modes. Be prepared to make a compromise to get all modes looking good if you have similar issues as mine. Also try to make a note of the original settings in the service menu, as it is very easy to screw things up.

Re: Accessing Service menu on Toshiba 36ZP48?

Loopy,

Many thanks, that is exactly what I was looking for.

Could you please clear up one point re your reply? Have I read it correctly that there is an inbuilt test card in the TV that is obtained by pressing the SOURCE INPUT whilst in "Service Menu" mode? Or, is that referring to the fact that if I have the Video Essentials DVD in my DVD player it will cycle to the test card from the Video Essentials DVD.

I will have a tinker and see if I can alter the geometry to what I need.

Regards
moonbase
