the best 32" CRTs?

Hi there, well on my quest for a new TV, I don't really need to save any space, so I'd rather get a CRT instead.

what would you say are the best models avaliable at the moment?

The WS32Z409TQXXEU seemed promising, but it seems to have some serious issues.

So what would you say are other good alternatives?

HD with HDMI of course.

Thanks

Re: the best 32" CRTs?

After some more searching it seems the WS32Z409TQXXEU and WS32Z429TQXXEU are the only sets avaliable.

Is the geometry problem really that bad?

I have a 100Hz 28" Plano Samsung which has slight bowing at the bottom center of the screen.

But you can only really see it when there is black bars at the bottom of the image.

When it's the proper aspect ratio, it's a tiny tiny amount, which you don't notice at all.

If the 409 and 429 are the same then I'd have no problems buying it.

But if it's worse and you can see it no matter the aspect ratio, then it doesn't sound to good.

You have a bad subject, that does not invite comments on the specific models you are interested. And are you asking *after* reading the 148 posts on the 429?

Re: the best 32" CRTs?

Well I had a look at the WS32Z419D in currys, and they had the other two in there.

I think people are being extremely extremely over critical, there was a slight bowing at the bottom center of the screen, no worse or no less than my 100hz plano set.

And as with my plano set, as long as the content is proper 16:9 format, you don't really notice it in the slightest.

I've read the out-dated threads on the set, but that doesn't really help me, since there isn't many recent posts, manufacturers improve products on the quiet all the time, so old threads are redundant.

If the slight bowing I saw in currys is all that's wrong with it, then it's an amazing set for the money.

Re: the best 32" CRTs?

Have had a Tosh 32ZP38 for three years now and imo, am yet to see a better picture on a CRT. It had great reviews on its release and is capable of accepting PAL/NTSC prog scan signals, plus has Dolby Pro Logic, with surround sound speakers, which you can use if you don't already have a 5.1 set up. Used them before I had my full system up and running and they provided a cheap alternative to a dedicated system with very good performance for an all in one CRT surround sound set up. You can now pick them up for a few hundred quid. If you don't already have a 5.1 sytem, then consider this, as it is a vast improvement on a standard CRT.
