jvc AV-28WFT1EKS problem!

My tv of 5 years is playing up! Its going into standby (which i believe is the safety mode switching it off) with no other problems until yesterday when the picture seemed to shrink. A little at first and then it went very small in the middle of the screen Just wondered if this is worth me looking at? I'm a reasonable hand and if i knew what certain areas to look at i could check for dry joints etc and any other basic problem solving before binning it. Thanks greatly for any advice, scott.

From top to bottom or in from the sides?

from the sides initially (about 2-3 inches) then it seemed is if they both shrank at the same time!

Re: jvc AV-28WFT1EKS problem!

hi
it sounds like a field collapse so i would first look at the lopt (line output transformer)
try this site for a manuel:
www.eserviceinfo.com/index.php?what=search
it should not be an expesive repair it could just be dry joints or a few componants
just be carefull there is very high voltages presant in there even with the set unpluged too
all the best
tec

If it's coming in at the sides then it's not field collapse. Field collapse would make it contract at the top & bottom.

If it is dry joints, which is possible if the fault is intermittent, the most likely place on this model is in the East-West correction circuit. If you (the OP) doesn't know what that is, then you probably shouldn't attempt to repair it yourself.

The fault isn't intermittant anymore! lasts about ten seconds with a picture reduced in size from the sides then goes into safety mode

"A circuit is provided for the correction of east-west pincushion distortions on the picture screen of a television receiver. "
You don't need (imho) a vast tv knowledge to understand fault finding in a tv as in effect its the same as finding faults in any circuits/ collection of components. Just theres more places for things to be hidden and there a larger database of past experience which i hope to tap into! I greatly appreciate all tips and hints that have been and (hopefully) are to be given!
