Unhappy JVC HV-32D40BK Purity Issue

Hi guys

Looking for a bit of advice - i have a JVC HV-32D40BK Screen

32" crt, one area about 5-6 inch circle is not showing red but pink so if a large red area is shown there is a pink circle in it veritcally center but off to the left.

It is under warranty and the tube has (supposedly) been replaced but the issue is still there.

I am now being told i should expect it!!! and there is nothing possible.

I understand these things can display but surely this is not an acceptable level and in a TV under warranty - there are no speakers anywhere around it or any other equipment apart froma DVD player on the shelf..

Any thoughts Guys

Thanks
Blue Marlin

Re: JVC HV-32D40BK Purity Issue

I have a HV-32P37, which I suspect is fitted with the same tube. I had similar problems which were caused by a PVR which seemed to affect the picture, giving me a patch on the screen where reds appeared pinkish, but this did come and go.

As I understand, these problems are sometimes caused by the fine shadow mask used in these tubes to get the high resolution - it makes the sets more susceptible to external influences such as magnetic fields generated by other electrical equipment, transformers in power supplies, loudspeakers, etc. Don't forget to consider what equipment is at the other side of the wall against which the TV is sited.

The construction of the walls in your house can also affect the set if, for example, one side of the set is particularly close to a brick or block wall.

Try moving any bits of kit which you have around the TV to see if you can isolate the problem, or even make the colour patch move. If that fails, then the only other thing I can suggest is to try moving the TV...

Hope this helps with your problem!

Solid walls can have a shielding and/or displacement effect on the earth's natural magnetic field, possibly affecting more sensitive sets. In addition, many building materials, in particular older clinker blocks, contain all sorts of minerals - some of which can have magnetic and/or radioactive properties, albeit very weak.

PFA (pulverised fuel ash or 'fly ash') which is extracted from power station flues was routinely used in the manufacture of a wide range of building materials for many years, and is still used in concrete for high strength footings. However, it has been discontinued from use in building materials which are intended to be used above ground level - this is due to the minerals contained within it, concentrated from the traces in the original fuel.

As an example, PFA from coal is typically 2ppm Uranium 238, plus it contains many other radioactive elements...

Really, it's a long shot for the OP, but worth considering...

Although I know nothing about the internal workings of TVs, this is quite a preposterous thing to be said. Someone who buys a JVC branded 32" TV is not expecting imperfection, which is also why screened RGB scarts, component cables, etc. are bought for these things. That's a bit saying that a bit of fuzzy sound on a high spec hifi with digital aerial receiver is OK.

Did it say anything about this TV possibly having purity issues on the box when you bought it? Of course not - 'to be expected' indeed.

When this technician comes, don't take any sh*t mate, remember how much you paid for this thing.

Re: JVC HV-32D40BK Purity Issue

So JVC have been and gone and i am at present none the wiser....

I have to await the JVC guys & retailers report to London JVC and await an outcome.

They saw the problem the engineer who worked on it said it was the same in the workshop and he could not shift the 'ball of impurity'

Looks like it will have to go all the way to trading standards at the rate it's going, the JVC guy did say 'its within tolerance' one phrase i am getting tired of hearing

The TV was fine then developed a fault, simple as that

No other TV i have seen has this issue. - the TV has been tried in any positions and away from all objects.

It is my 4th JVC TV i have not had a problem before with any.

Is JVC customer service any good and worth contacting via letter?

Re: JVC HV-32D40BK Purity Issue

Yeah the customer doesn't seem to always be right anymore. Everything is designed to fail or just designed poorly and the 'tolerance' excuses are made. They've got the capitalist game pinned down well. I had a similar problem with the angle on my TV but the engineer was kind enough to fix it at his own discretion even though it was 'within tolerance', now I have a purity issue myself though.

Next time I invest in a TV I am going to be doing an extrordinary amount of research.

It sounds like you've tried everything possible to rule out any external influences, it most definitely has to be a defect with the set - as confirmed by the fact the set exhibited the same defect on the repair bench.

The phrase "within tolerance" is used all too often today, as groovemeister says, but in many cases it is plainly unreasonable - if a defect is present and not tolerable by the end user, then the set is not fit for purpose.

I seem to remember I few posts on here about positive experiences with JVC, including someone who recently had an offer of a replacement set out of warranty...

Re: JVC HV-32D40BK Purity Issue

Well still awaiting a letter as to the outcome.

I agree the 'within tolerence' seems a too heavily used excuse - especially when no one can produce the tolerences that it is supposed to be within.

Trading standards letter sent and credit card company informed - it looks like i;m in for the long haul.

Letter to JVC is underway and will be sent if i hear nothing by the end of the week.

It just seems so obvious to me - large area of impurity when displaying red or golden yellow or brown - nothing like it visable on other TV's within shops at freinds etc - set still under warranty - why the hassle.

Thanks for your support so far guys - will keep you posted
