Progressive Scan - TV or DVD player?

Just wondered whether anyone has an explanation for this.

I own a Panasonic TX-32PD30 TV - it's a Quintrix Acuity thing. It has progressive scan and even though the picture was really good, I decided to upgrade my DVD player to take advantage of the progressive scan as I'd heard of the benefits. I bought a Pioneer DV-696AV-S DVD player.

When I use progressive scan on the DVD player, the picture quality is not as good as when I watch using interlaced at 100Hz+ and I get slight flickering as well.

Does anyone know why this is? Is it the TV or DVD player?
