Digital distress signal !

'scuse me if this question sounds daft but....Should you still be able to see the analogue versions of bbc1 etc, when a Pace box is connected. We live in a poor digital area, so we can't get Itv & ch5 thru digital. But when I turn over back to the analogue channels, the picture slips constantly. Any help would be gratefully received........before the damn box goes thru the window!!!!!
