Question A question of Contrast

Hi,

I am new to the idea of Plasma screens and am trying to weigh up the pro's and con's of my two short listed screens.

One is there by merit of rave reviews of picture clarity/price point and the other for screen size, brand and a decent price.

The two in question are:

Panasonic 37" TH-37PWD4BX

and

Sony 42" PFM-42B1

The main worry above all else between these two is the quoted Contrast ratio....

The Panny gets 3000:1 and the only quoted figure that I see for the Sony is 500:1.

My question is this:

In the real world, exactly how much difference will this make. I expect to use the Plasma screens for Sky & DVD playback mainly and in a mixtre of Day & Night viewing. I would say that my front room is not "Flooded" with sunlight during the day, but I was wondering if the contrast on the Sony may be a problem?
