KV-32FX68U or KV32FQ75U, whats you pick? (yep im a newbie)

Hi, i have the fortunate option of either buying the newer Sony model but less overall features > KV-32FX68U or the packed with features but older Sony model > KV-32FQ75U? (both 2nd hand off a family friends) I have no idea which to go for and its driving me nuts, both have great reviews with little in it - so hence im drawn to the people who own these on the forum for advice.

After using 'search' noticed threads about the KV-32FQ75U suffering from some problems, but only seems to be minority (but then the TV also minority i would think?) but its such a great bit of kit is it not? Where as the KV-32FX68U does not seem to get the same fodder with problems (+ couple of years newer) however does lack a few features the other one has. I was slightly swaying towards the KV-32FQ75U, but after some post's ive read here now have seeds of dought.

Considering you posted this early AM today and then most respondents would be at work...a little patience on your part wouldn't go amiss.

Well with loads of active members i was just suprised no one waved in with reply during the whole day - since they two very known top performing CRT's. Anyway my bump was more in good nature so dont make it out to be something it was not please.

Yep saw this yesterday but did not have enough time to make a reply (work an all that).

To me it would seem sensible to make your own judgement in the light that you have access to both of them and are aware that each TV has set features. Always go with the one you like most!

Hi I appreciate your concern here but looking at it purely from a manufacturer pov they are both Sony and from my experience Sony stuff is uncannily reliable. Again since they have been in the family circle for some years is it not clear they are both reliable? If it's any help I had a 28FX60U for 4 years without any problems and my mate had an old 4:3 21" Sony TV for an incredible 25 years with just 1 minor fault ..... power switch broke.... just used remote to power on/off. Terrible looking TV in the latter years but thats not the point here.

Had KV-32FQ75U and it was a superb set. I didn't even notice the scrolling bands problem until I started reading AVforums and 'started' looking for the problem. After that I noticed it every time only because I was 'looking for the problem', my wife never noticed it even when I told here about it . Personally even with the band problem I would go for the FQ75 it's picture quality and features are fantastic, and tell you the truth you won't even notice the band problem in day-to-day use. Hope that helps.

Ok thanks you have eased my concerns Is there anything better than the KV-32FQ75U in 32" CRT; such as the KV-32FQ80U? Or are we talking FQ75U is/was Sony's glory moment with traditional 32" CRT's?

I too own a KV-32FQ75U, picture is fantastic! sound ain't bad either.

Certainly not thinking of upgrading too lcd/plasma or hd, as the picture through Sky+ is fantastic. No problems with the set.

Will only replace if it costs too much too repair!

If you want the best and possibly THE BEST Sony made a 36HQ100U TV which has astonishing picture quality with 4 scart i/p's of which 2 were RGB enabled. Not sure anyone whom bought one would part with it tho'

Myself think it's around the £200/250 mark.

Update: Decided on the KV-32FX68U, reason been its a newer model and tbh even though the KV-32FQ75U has more fancy features, im only interested in viewing quality + sound and between the two i could see little or no diff even with the 75U having DRC.

Well been family friends; was offerd the FQ75U for £160 and FX68U for £140, both are immaculate with not a single mark anywhere. I believe the 75U minter is going on Ebay for £225 soon - so keep an eye out for one been sold in Ashford, Kent.

One thing i must ask though, i have the Sony KV-24LS35 in another room and allthough that emits a buzz; you certainly cant hear it unless your around the back of the case with ear to the unit. With the 32FX68U - i can hear it from my sofa seated position with volume low (say three bars), is that normal?

See > KV-32FX68U, not sure its working as intended?
