Angry Just bought a Tosh 36ZP46 and it's *$/&%#*

I just bought this off ebay.. http://************/pbs25

The set is displaying off colours in the bottom right and left corners. It is usually green, but when the background is blue, it seems to have red in the corners. This extends a long way towards the centre of the picture, especially from the left corner.

Does anyone know if this can be repaired please and if so, roughly what price I can expect to pay?

I really wish I had bought one of these brand new now, good ones are like gold-dust.

Cheers,
Mike.

I'm having similar trouble with my new KV-28HX15U... It's got red tint on the left (and possibly right, it's harder to see...) side of the screen, extending to near the centre of the picture. It's a real pain on light colours.

I suppose even buying brand new CRTs is a lottery nowadays. I've tried two brand new HX15s from Leather Sofa World. The first one didn't have the problem with the red tint at the sides of the screen, instead the sides of the screen were blurred! I'm starting to wise I'd saved the £195 for an LCD.

The seller states its 11 months old. That gives it a further 1 month under warranty. Ask the seller where he bought it and date etc. You may need to get a copy of the receipt off him.

Try turning the contrast down, as some CRT's dome when the picture gets bright (the shadowmask heats up and distorts causing purity errors) - however this is not common in pure flat sets.

Also, has the set been dropped or banged at all, the welds which hold the shadowmask in place can break, causing purity errors. Try banging the front of the CRT in the problem area to see if the colour problem responds to a knock (you can hurt your hand but it's worth a go - you wont damage the set!).

Last suggestion, have you rotated the set at all when its been on , or do you have any large metallic objects or speakers near by. Any of these things can cause localised purity problems.

Let us know how you get on.
