Question Hitachi C2858TN set-up. Help! no manual or remote control

My Parents want to use their oldish Hitachi C2858TN again.
Luckily BBC1 & 2, ITV & Channel 4 are still accessible.
Now I need to connect the video.

I've no problems connecting the cables but I don't know how to 'tune it in' to a particular channel.
I've tried 'twiddling' but I'm only a layman.

Without the manual, remote control or Hitachi remote control code (so I can use the video remote control)
I'm stuck.
I've hunted online for a manual to download and for a code without any success. The European Hitachi site lists manuals the same as C2858TN but they haven't been much help.

What can I do? How can I set up the video?
PARENTS are getting impatient and I'm getting frustrated!!
Please can someone help me??!!

Re: Hitachi C2858TN set-up. Help! no manual or remote control

If you connect the vcr to the tv by scart lead with a tape in and press play the tv will automatically switch to the av channel which will be either AV1/AV2 or EXT1/EXT2 and show the tape...but to manually select this channel on the tv to monitor the channels from the vcr you will need the tv remote...any universal remote you buy should be able to be programmed to operate the tv.
