TV reapir company and damage done to my TV!

Hi there,
To cut a long story short my Panasonic TV recently went in for a repair with a local company I have a one-year extended warranty.

Anyway when the TV came back it was in a terrible condition. The top of the front fascia had several deep scratches on it and it was filthy dirty. I complained to the repair company and they came to collect it. I told the lady on the phone I wouldn’t be happy with any sort of touch up job on the scratches as it just wouldn’t work really the whole front fascia needs replacing. Today I receive a message from the engineer to say the TV would be sent of to be cosmetically repaired.

I feel exhausted with them really as even the repair wasn’t fixed they put it down to a low signal in my area. The problem there was basically of static line running down the front of the TV. Every channel is affected. The thing is my old Panasonic is perfect and even the TV they lent me whilst mine was being repaired.

I’ve been told the TV won’t be ready until late next week in the meantime when they collected the TV they didn’t lend me a TV this time so I have no telly for over a week.

What do you think I should do I’m really not happy about some touch up repair job. The scratches are so deep they go through to the black plastic below.

Keep a diary of events and retain all correspondence.

If it gets as far as the courts, it will be next year, so you'll have forgotten the details by then.

Hi there,
Thanks for your replies. I got in touch with my local trading standards this morning and they were excellent very helpful and have opened a case file for me.

I contacted the TV repair company and explained politely that I wasn’t happy with a cosmetic repair being done as really the damage is so severe the front section of the fascia really needs replacing. The reply I received was that they would speak to the manager but he wouldn’t be happy to agree with my demands as they would have to replace the entire case. I feel that it was their carelessness that caused the damage and now they just wish to do as little as possible with a little cosmetic touching up.

At the end of the day what ever cosmetic repair they do it will never look and be as it was which was in mint condition. They will have basically devalued my TV.

I think I will be quoting in my next conversation the supply of goods services act 1982.
