Sony KV-28HX15U Service Menu

First of all, can anyone tell me how to access the service menu on my Sony KV-28HX15U? I'll need to know that before I can do anything.

My HX15U has a few problems, problems that I'm not sure how I should go about fixing... I'd appreciate it if you guys can give me some advice.

The main problem is a red outline on the left side of things. It makes text look untidy, something that's quite a problem for someone who watches anime with subtitles and plays lots of RPGs. I'm not sure if it's something all Sony CRTs share, but I know for a fact that the three HX15s I've tried have had the red outline problem.

The other problem that I've noticed on my third HX15U is a weird red tint on the left side of the screen, possibly also on the right side. It isn't really a HUGE problem since it's only really visible on bright scenes (light blue sky, clouds, etc...)

Thanks.

Re: Sony KV-28HX15U Service Menu

I can't be certain but if it's anything like older Sony's then from the TV set controls. Power OFF, hold down the channel + & - buttons while turning on the TV. Let go when you see TT top right. Press Menu button twice for service menu.
There is a remote command too for access but I'm not to sure what sequence to press. It maybe... in standby... press volume up,5,i+ then power on from remote.

To exit press 00 enter (OK)

Hope this helps.

i+? I can't see anything like that on my remote...

Do you guys have any idea what the problem could be with the red outline? Not much a novice like me can do in the service menu without any idea what to change.

Re: Sony KV-28HX15U Service Menu

I don't recommend fiddling with the Service Menu, unless you know what you're doing.

There is quite a lot of interaction between some of the adjustments.

But if you insist, make sure you write down ALL settings before starting to play.

Also be aware that a repair person will charge you more to correct your mis-adjustments, than if you had just presented them with the original fault.

Good luck.

The i+ button is still there on recent Sony’s; the symbol is very tiny and maybe printed on the button itself or by the side of it.

Look in your instruction manual for a button with something worded like this,

Displaying on screen information:
Press this button to display all on screen indications. Press again to cancel

Found the little bugger...it's hard to see. I got the service menu up and ran away.

I tried posting on that forum when my original HX15 decided to randomly gain a blue tint, no-one bothered to help me. I'll try posting there again... >.<
